Outreach at St. Luke’s includes various forms of hospitality, which create a bond among our own members and between our parish family and the surrounding community. We extend hospitality in several ways. Volunteers are the heart of our outreach efforts.
- Hospitality Ministers for Parish Events serve as hosts for a variety of parish activities, such as our annual Harvest Fest and special parish receptions. Questions or interest, email: stlukeom@nycap.rr.com
- Hospitality to New Parishioners is extended through a brief visit to new families by a volunteer who brings information about the parish community and its activities, as well as a gift of home-made bread. Questions or interest, email: stlukeom@nycap.rr.com
- Martha’s Ministers, patterned after Martha’s hospitality to Jesus, provide home baked items for parish events and activities. Questions or interest, email: stlukeom@nycap.rr.com
- The St. Luke’s Food Pantry, sponsored by our parish conference of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, provides food up to six times per year to needy families living in the greater Schenectady city area. Questions or interest, email: stlukeom@nycap.rr.com
- Holiday Food and Gift Baskets are provided, with the help of other churches and community organizations, for up to 400 Schenectady families. Questions, comments, or interest, email: stlukeom@nycap.rr.com
- St. Luke’s maintains membership in the Schenectady Inner City Ministry and the Central State Street Ecumenical Cluster, through which we participate in ecumenical Christian activities in our community. Such activities include the annual CROP Walk to fight world hunger, the federally and state sponsored program of free lunch for children during the summer, an Ecumenical Vacation Bible School, and a number of other ecumenical prayer and bible-study opportunities. We also have a parish representative on the local ARISE group (A Regional Initiative Supporting Empowerment), which works to empower citizens to bring about needed policy change in their communities.
